Deep in the heart of Texas
Devastation abounds.
The sights we now hold carry stories untold—
Catastrophe on once-holy grounds.
Deep in the heart of Texas
There is wailing, mourning, grief.
Hearts are aching as the news keeps breaking
So many lives, much too brief.
Deep in the heart of Texas
The rains were much too fierce
It came so fast that the destruction was vast
Like arrows and our hearts did pierce.
Deep in the heart of Texas
There is such heavy loss.
When emotions are tense and nothing makes sense,
We must still look to the cross.
Deep in the heart of Texas
As questions and doubts do swell,
If your head does spin and your faith feels thin
Seek God–Emmanuel.
Deep in the heart of Texas
May we trust when it doesn’t make sense.
May we cry and pray through each broken day
May faith become our defense.
Deep in the heart of Texas
May healing begin to rise
May anguish and fears be washed through our tears
By the One who paints the skies.
