Navigating the Unknown

This piece was originally written for the incredible women of Compel Pro, the writing community that has encouraged me to grow, develop, and elevate my writing journey over the last six months. It reflects my experience with this group and the lessons I have learned. I’m sharing it here in the hope that it might inspire and encourage anyone who feels called to pursue their writing dreams.

Before joining Compel, I went through a season of quiet—a season marked by migraines that left me lying in a dark, quiet room, unable to do much. We often hear that good can come from suffering, and I found this to be true. In that stillness, I spent more time in prayer than ever before. I wasn’t just crying out to God for relief from the pain; I was asking for direction.

Health challenges had forced me to step away from my teaching career, leaving me feeling lost. But in those quiet moments, God reminded me that the knowledge I had gained as an educator could still be used. One of my greatest joys as a teacher was helping others. As I prayed, God opened my eyes to the hurting people around me, many of them struggling in ways that mirrored my own. It became clear that I could combine my understanding of how the brain learns best with the power of scripture, which led to my first publication, Biblical Journaling for Anxiety. I was so grateful for the guidance God provided, but I still wondered: where do I go from here?

Six months ago, I decided to invest in the calling God has placed on my heart, and I joined Compel Pro. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made! Before joining Compel, I felt like I knew what I was supposed to do, but I had no idea how to do it!

Do you remember playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey at birthday parties as a kid? You’d be blindfolded, spun around until you were dizzy and disoriented, and then expected to pin the tail in just the right spot. That’s exactly how my writing journey felt before joining Compel Pro—confused, unsure of where I was heading, and struggling to hit the mark. Compel Pro has been like that kind soul who takes you by the shoulders, points you in the right direction, and gives you a gentle push toward success. The courses, blog teachings, and connections I’ve made through Compel Pro have been incredibly valuable.

Since joining, I’ve continued to create and publish guided journals that invite readers to immerse their minds in scripture. My published works also include Biblical Journaling for Finding Your Identity in Christ and Biblical Journaling for Renewing Your Mind. The guidance and encouragement from Compel have helped me find my voice. As my confidence has grown, I have revamped my website, shared more of my writing through micro-blogging on my social media channels, and began an e-mail list and monthly newsletter. I’m also excited to announce that I’m finishing up my latest project—a book of Breath Prayers—and plan to publish it soon.

Reflecting on my journey, I remember my time as an educator. I was a good teacher, but I didn’t get there alone. Learning from the colleagues around me allowed me to sharpen my skills and become great. The same is true with Compel Pro. By connecting with others, we learn from each other’s strengths, grow together, and become better! Together, we become more confident in our calling. Together, we elevate our craft. Together, we can celebrate with one another and learn from one another. I’m thankful for Compel Pro, and I’m grateful for all of you!

I’m honored to invite you to join me in my journey! Add your name to my e-mail list if you’d like! Just find the subscribe tab at the top of my homepage. I can promise you my journey will not continue without flaws, but if you’d like to learn with me and watch as God continues to lead and guide me, I’d love to have company as I continue on my path!
